I Love Thrifting Day Volunteer

So, I totally missed my calling of being a fashion stylist, which I learned as a committee member for the Fashionably Chic Tour! We celebrated "I Love Thrifting Day" by hosting festivities at Uptown Cheapskate in Timonium, Maryland. The part of the day that I mostly enjoyed (other than shopping, of course) was the Stylist Wars. I jumped in to participate last minute and styled my model in purple, black white and Jeffrey Campbell snake skin boots. I added a pop of color with neon yellow necklace. We won!! This is my second time winning a stylist challenge this year at a fashion event and I was too proud. :) We also presented give-aways, hosted a fashion show and more. I was given the opportunity to style the store mannequin! This event inspired me.
We WON!! ;)

300 Men March Against Violence

It is always a great feeling to be a part of something great: The 300 Men March Against Violence. The march, which attracted almost 500 men and 100 female volunteers, was a huge success! This occasion brought out the Baltimore Police Chief, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and more. As an ambassador for Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation, I volunteered, assisting with registering the 500 participants. Although the women did not march, in the end, I felt like I contributed to eliminating future catastrophes. I want to live in a safe place and I appreciate all of the men who took the first "step"!

Titleless Leadership at Johns Hopkins

I was too excited to be the speaker for 150 female student interns in the Johns Hopkins Summer Jobs Program. I could not wait for them to engage in the activities I had planned for them regarding "Titleless Leadership"!

If you can do anything to support a young person, please do. Talk with them, listen to them, dance with them... They need us. All of these children are OUR children. The focus of my presentation to the Johns Hopkins Summer Interns was ‪‎leadership, but one of the things the girls appreciated the most was how transparent I was in sharing my story of surviving sexual abuse. I thank God for the opportunity to support them, but it takes a village. Will you open your your door?

These young ladies inspired me in a major way. I appreciate their feedback, but they truly motivated me to continue this work. Check out what they had to say in this video!

Modeling My Natural Hair on Fox 45 News

I was honored to be chosen as a model for the morning news!! We were featured for "Makeover Monday" on Fox 45 during a segment on how to care for and wear natural hair in the summer months. It was too cool seeing the setup of the studio, talking with my favorite news anchor, Patrice, and having my cell phone and social media blow up with messages of, "I just saw you on TV!" (lol) Even the natural hair brand, Oyin, contacted me afterwards and thanked me for doing a great job. Outside of being on TV, what I found super exciting was that Candace Dold, the fashion forward meteorologist, ran up to me right before we started filming and emphatically asked where I got my shoes! She even tweeted me later about where to get them. I was too pumped about this enlightening, positive experience! :)

High Heels for Hope

I shared a day of golf with Ms. Maryland and Ms. Maryland Classic Essence, at the Pine Ridge Driving Range in Lutherville, MD. I was more than happy to support “High Heels For Hope”, a fundraiser for the House of Ruth, a shelter for women who have been involved in domestic violence. The objective was to pay for balls and play them with heels on--even the men! This sounds very much like another event that I participate in annually, Walk a Mile In Her Shoes.

Witnessing domestic violence in my childhood in my home was devastating to my family and has long term effects, especially on relationships. I am always seeking ways to prevent this catastrophe from occurring in other households.

I was too excited to hit my fourth ball 100 yards--the length of a football field! (I needed support as this was my first time EVER golfing, lol) It was fun, especially sharing the experience with my sister queens. We even got sunglasses, a gift card and tote bag from DSW Shoes!! That was a hole-in-one! :)

Ms. Maryland, Ms. Classic Maryland and Mrs. Maryland Essence score with DSW Shoes!

During my first time ever playing golf, I hit 100 yards on my fourth ball! :)

With the coordinators of the event from the House of Ruth. They were so kind to us!

The men did not get off easy! Shoes in mens sizes were available for their golfing experience. ;)

Celebrity Gospel Artist Presenter at The Platform

I was honored to be invited to The Platform Gospel Music Awards show. I was accompanied by Tamika Hall, Mrs. Essence 2010! Given the opportunity to present the award to Y'Anna Crawley, a BET Sunday's Best winner, I am a gospel music lover through and through, so this was a high honor for me. I will admit I was slightly star struck (lol) but I played it off really well. I also interviewed Y'Anna and other gospel celebrities about their fashion for the evening as the Style Expert for Gospel Insider News!

A Night of Grandeur

With my sister queen, Ms. Maryland Essence, Monique Boyd, at the Natural Hollywood Magazine "Night of Grandeur" Natural Hair Event. I was invited as a special guest as an honor for being a natural hair queen. Monique and I had exclusive VIP seats and an up close view of out of this world creativity in hair design.

Hosting the Primrose Boutique Fashion Show

I love fashion and I love the fashions of Primrose Boutique! Again, I am very proud of my successful blog, Corner Curl Girl, which has allowed me to gain sponsorship, media and modeling opportunities from great boutiques. I am very thankful to Andrea, the CEO of Primrose Boutique, who has fully sponsored my blog. I am always excited to see what is new on the racks of this boutique!

Today, I was honored to emcee the fashion show for Primrose Boutique at the Authors on the Rise event. There was a great response from the audience and I was very proud to wear my "Gone with the Wind" fabulous dress sponsored by the boutique!

Chosen as the Director of GIRL POWER 2013 Girls Conference

2008 Silent Tears No More Speaker
I am so excited that I was chosen by Carolyn, Founder of Sisters 4 Sisters, Inc., as the Director for this phenomenal and anticipated event! I am accustomed to mentoring 40 or a little more girls at a time, but I have never hosted a conference for 150 girls! It is an honor to have this organization believe in me and my work as an entrepreneur and mentor. I am grateful for those who have already reached out a hand of support. Just think, this all began in 2008 from one presentation I gave on sexual and domestic violence. My work in the community for this important cause has really paid off in a big way. If you are giving back and feel discouraged, keep going--you, too, will see outstanding results! Stay tuned for more details to come.

Exclusive Red Carpet Walk for White House Down

My friends and I were too excited to be invited to an exclusive walk on the red carpet for the release of White House Down! And guess who was also in attendance? The stars of the movies themselves, Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum! There are many perks to being a fashion and natural hair blogger and this was one of them! I was very close to the red carpet when Fox and Tatum arrived. After the movie, they spoke to the audience about the movie. What an honor that I will never forget--next time, I want to walk the red carpet alongside them. :)

In the photo, I am pictured with the bloggers behind Fab Impressions, Mama Naturalista and Moms N Charge.
