Happy National Mentoring Month! (January)

National Mentoring Month highlights mentoring and the positive impact it can have on young lives. This month-long outreach campaign focuses national attention on the need for mentors, as well as how each of us—individuals, businesses, government agencies, schools, faith communities and nonprofits—can work together to increase the number of mentors and assure brighter futures for our young people.

I just completed my second book with my ePal, Juliana! We read In Their Own Words: Lewis and Clark. I am very impressed how eagerly and quickly Juliana chose another book soon after Jake Drake. She seems to be very intelligent and a great reader.

I enjoyed Lewis and Clark. We could not have chosen a better time to read it! It was neat to read about what happened during the time that Jefferson was president, especially now that we have a new president.

I could even relate to Lewis and Clark. One of the best ideas that I think could be learned from the book is teamwork. It is so important to make sure that I work well with others so that I can accomplish my goals. I work with several different groups of people in teams when I volunteer and do community service. As a result, my "teams" have been able to help a lot of children, teens and soldiers.

In the words of a Shoshone warrior from the book, "ah-hi-e, ah-hi-e," which means, "I am much pleased". Get involved - it's easy and fun with In2Books. Enroll your classroom or become a pen pal to inspire young readers to excel.
