Volunteering for Adopt-A-Block (Bartlett Street, Baltimore, MD)

I volunteered for Adopt-A-Block, a special block party on Saturday, August 30, 2008 from 12noon- 3pm. It was held on the 600 block of Bartlett Street in the 21218 zip code area.

Adopt-A-Block, Inc. is a non-profit organization seeking to bring restoration to Baltimore City communities with the help of the local government, police department, businesses, churches and community organizations. They partner with resource agencies to meet the needs of the residents of East Baltimore.

Adopt-A-Block hosted eight block parties on selected Saturdays during the summer months. They go into different troubled areas of East Baltimore and bring in resources that would help bring up the quality of life in these neighborhoods. These community events provide wholesome entertainment as well as resources for health, education, jobs, clothing, food and spiritual needs for the people living in the area. As a family resource, they seek participation from the community event to bring information to help strengthen the family.

Transforming the city one block at a time is the goal. This year's block parties are vital to the communities in Baltimore City. I was honored to have judged the talent show and helped in various other needed areas of the event. I will gladly support future Adopt-A-Block events!
