My pageant sister and friend, Tamika Hall, Mrs. Maryland Essence 2009, invited me to speak with her at the Heart-2-Heart Mother/Daughter Overnight Retreat for the Elite Female Mentoring Organization. The name of the retreat was "Strengthing the Bond". I was touched to see so many teen girls with their mothers, dressed alike in Heart-2-Heart t-shirts, sharing and enjoying their weekend together. This retreat provided the mother/daughter duos or teams to spend a little quality time, reconnect, learn, grow and gain new techniques to communicate effectively with each other.Addressing our individual platforms, Tamika and I discussed the importance of keeping communication open between the mothers and daughters. The engagement concluded with a balloon activity created by Tamika. I had a great time and was inspired by Tamika. She is truly driven to help eliminate teen dating violence.
