Calling America: "The Rise and Fall of a Supermodel"

Calling America grew out of a 14-part radio series produced by the National Writing Project (NWP). Calling America highlights gifted writers through NWP channels and Poets & Writers magazine. After receiving more than 400 submissions, my short story, The Rise and Fall of a Supermodel, was welcomed into Calling America. My short story will be heard nationally on a variety of radio programs. So far, Calling America has recorded 21 short audio clips (two to four minutes each) that each give a gritty glimpse of lives both known and imagined. The Rise and Fall of a Supermodel is included in a segment entitled “Dreams” and can be listened to and/or downloaded at: http://radiocallingamerica.com/listen.html

The production team includes host Kim Stafford, a teacher, writer and former director of the Oregon Writing Project; producer Deborah Begel (Fresh Air, Selected Shorts); and sound designer Stephen Erickson (Jazz from Lincoln Center).

Calling America has been developed with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Writing Project, KUNM in Albuquerque, the Stella Adler Studio and the Lower Eastside Girls Club in New York City, Edward Haber, Jeana Francis, and many others.

A special thank you entire production team, Don Otero on Mandolin, who provided soothing accompanying music, and...
